{"id":227,"date":"2008-05-06T15:18:22","date_gmt":"2008-05-06T15:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sasamat.ca\/test\/?p=227"},"modified":"2014-02-10T00:05:04","modified_gmt":"2014-02-10T00:05:04","slug":"32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timwyatt.ca\/test\/?p=227","title":{"rendered":"Citrix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, Mark Templeton, the CEO of Citrix, is considered a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internetnews.com\/infra\/article.php\/3743966\/Is+It+Time+to+Rethink+ITs+Priorities.htm\">credible advisor <\/a>to organizations considering the\u00a0move\u00a0to\u00a0Service Oriented application infrastructure and a bright future of innovation and efficiency that IT can bring to business.<\/p>\n<p>I really don&#8217;t see where this credibility comes from. Is Citrix is sponsoring the conference?<\/p>\n<p>Templeton is the CEO of an organization that makes money by persuading people to centralize\u00a0the client component of\u00a0their classical client-server applications on\u00a0his\u00a0proprietry product. So he&#8217;s unlikely\u00a0to be dispassionate about decisions over what to centralize, virtualize or leave well alone. But more importantly, Citrix is the purveyor of a technology (i.e. Remote Fat Client) that is completely at odds with the notion of developing heterogeneous Service Orientated\u00a0applications.\u00a0Instead, the snakeoil of its &#8216;PC-Anywhere for the Internet generation&#8217; has been sold to IT managers desparate for a break from the nightmare\u00a0of managing unstable and brittle client applications running on unstable and brittle PC operating systems.<\/p>\n<p>At best it&#8217;s a purely tactical solution, at worst a siren song that actually leads away from\u00a0a genuine\u00a0strategic answer. Many an IT manager has listened to those sirens and\u00a0run aground on the rocks of Citrix.
