Here&#8217;s what happened the week of August 10.<\/p>\n<p>As kids head back to school, we were reminded on Twitter last week that we all need to be a little smarter and stop celebrating\u00a0any &#8220;Day&#8221; with a hashtag in front of it. #MiddleChildDay #WorldElephantDay #LefthandedDay all trended last week proving we&#8217;ll talk about anything. Also, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/adfreak\/man-poses-target-facebook-trolls-haters-its-gender-neutral-move-epic-replies-166364\">that one guy cracked us up<\/a> when he hacked the Target Facebook page after tons of adults [in need of a hobby]\u00a0lost their minds over gender neutrality. He also reminded brands what social monitoring means. In the meantime, social platforms kept making news.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Twitter direct messages just turned into email<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Instagram continues to support censoring your hashtags (#whatfirstamendment)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Could YouTube eat Periscope? A n<a href=\"http:\/\/pubsonline.informs.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1287\/mksc.2015.0912\">ew study<\/a>\u00a0shows that responding to one complaint might open the floodgates for more customer complaints. But is that so bad?\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/why-companies-should-respond-when-twitter-rage-spikes_55ca4048e4b0f1cbf1e67899\">Check out this opinion<\/a>\u00a0on why companies should respond to \u201cTwitter Rage Spikes\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Instagram<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>More Ads and The Story Behind Hashtag Bans<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Instagram has finally begun\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fool.com\/investing\/general\/2015\/08\/13\/youre-about-to-see-a-lot-more-ads-in-your-instagra.aspx\">opening up its API<\/a>\u00a0to third parties and the revenue prospect for the coming year is, as expected, in the billions. Concerns over ad quality decreasing is real but the review process is just as real.<\/p>\n<p>We have also been slightly befuddled by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/2969838\/social-networking\/why-instagram-started-banning-hashtags-and-why-its-a-bad-idea.html\">banning of hashtags<\/a>\u00a0on Instagram and we know it&#8217;s probably a terrible idea. Instagram is continuing in the crack down either way.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>Facebook<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Facebook Confirms Live Broadcasting Will Soon Open to Journalists and Verified Profiles<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Well, that was fast&#8230; In response to requests about when they\u2019d get access to the VIP-only Facebook Live, Facebook will soon grant the ability to a much wider swath of users who have verified Profiles, meant for public figures that aren\u2019t quite as &#8220;famous&#8221;. This includes some more entertainers, athletes, politicians,\u00a0journalists. \u00a0Normal users were not given broadcast access and that could be because the platform needs some technical work. <i>Or<\/i>, it could be that Facebook wanted to start with celebrities to teach users what\u2019s interesting to stream, avoiding the\u00a0\u201cHello world\/this is my breakfast\u201d broadcasts that could convince people livestreams aren\u2019t fun to watch. Considering\u00a0Facebook changed its tune from just a week ago, we\u2019d expect Live to open up to Verified Profiles before the holidays. &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2015\/08\/12\/facebook-live-livestreaming\/\">Sourc<\/a>e [Oh good, more Kardashians.]<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><b>LinkedIn<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>LinkedIn Publishing Goes Global with Localized Languages<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Members in other languages around the world will soon be able to publish on LinkedIn\u00a0beginning with Portuguese. Original content is a focal point for expansion.<\/p>\n<p><b>YouTube Live Broadcast Announced, Google\u2019s Periscope Competitor<\/b><\/p>\n<p>YouTube is launching another live broadcasting service, in the same vein of Periscope and Meerkat.
